John was a Circuit Preacher, M.D., and inventor. He held patent rights to hand cranked washing machines. He manufactured them in his barn along with elixirs and tonics, which he sold from a "medicine show" wagon. Marietta Arminda Woodbury said that she and her brother Fred "BoBo" Woodbury would dress as Indians as a testimonial about the elixir. John Hull wore his hair long with a goatee and mustache. This information was obtained by personal interview, from a family bible in the possession of Ms. Josephine Hamlin, marriage records Randolph Co., OH and Aunt Bess Woodbury.
